You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.

  • No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
  • The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
  • Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
  • Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
  • Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
  • If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
  • Cell phone use in the operating areas is prohibited at all times.  You must turn off your device prior to that time.  Cell phone operations are a disruption, distraction, and a potential safety issue.
  • To protect your privacy and that of others, photography of any type with any type of device is prohibited in any area of the office.
  • You may take any daily routine oral medications unless otherwise specified by the doctor at your consultation visit.
  • After the procedure, once you are able to sit up and drink fluids, the intravenous will be removed and you are almost ready to leave. At this time the recovery room nurse will review with you and your ride all the post-operative instructions and answer any questions either of you may have in regards to care of your mouth. There is always a surgeon on-call 24 hours and he can also answer any emergency questions you may have in regards to your care following your surgery.
